Translations Officer
Description
About the role:
To provide accurate, timely and contextually appropriate verbal and written translation support services for official correspondences (incoming and outgoing), reports, forms, technical documents, aviation-related and business documents from Arabic to English & vice versa. The role ensures clarity, consistency, confidentiality, completeness, and compliance with approved terminology, templates, and organizational communication standards while supporting MATAR management, departments, and stakeholders with high-quality language services and day-to-day translation requirements.
Key responsibilities
Translate official correspondence, reports, forms, policies, technical documents, legal-related documents, aviation-related materials and business documents between Arabic and English ensuring accuracy, completeness, appropriate tone and contextual relevance.
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to clarify unclear source text, technical terminology, context, background information or translation requirements before finalising translations.
Apply professional judgement when translating sensitive, technical or executive-level documents to ensure the intended meaning, tone, context and terminology are accurately reflected.
Research technical, legal, aviation, government or business terminology to ensure accurate translation of specialised content and maintain consistency across recurring documents.
Maintain, update and apply approved bilingual terminology, glossaries, style guides and translation references and standards to ensure consistency across all translated documents and compliance with organisational and applicable legal requirements.
Review, proofread, edit, format, compare and validate translated materials, including work prepared by department admins/staff or external providers, before submission to ensure completeness, linguistic accuracy, correct grammar, consistency of meaning, figures, dates, names, references, approved terminology and compliance with corporate templates and communication standards.
Ensure final translated documents are complete, professionally presented and suitable for official use, circulation or submission.
Provide verbal interpretation assistance during meetings, workshops, conferences, official events or business discussions, when required, to support effective communication between Arabic and English speakers.
Coordinate with Document Control team to ensure translated materials are properly version-controlled, classified, filed, retrieved and maintained in accordance with information governance requirements.
Monitor and coordinate translation requests, priorities, workloads and turnaround times while maintaining translation logs and providing workload, backlog and completion updates to support service-level and KPI reporting.
Prioritise assigned translation requests based on urgency, complexity and business need to support timely delivery while maintaining translation quality and accuracy.
Utilise translation memory tools, terminology references, CAT software, SharePoint, document management systems and approved technology solutions to improve efficiency, traceability, consistency and retrieval of translated materials.
Support translation-related automation and digital improvement initiatives by identifying repetitive tasks, recommending workflow enhancements and assisting in the implementation of approved tools or system improvements to improve efficiency, traceability and service delivery.
Identify recurring translation issues, workflow bottlenecks or improvement opportunities and recommend practical actions to improve turnaround time, quality, consistency and process efficiency.
Review translated work prepared by junior staff or external providers, when required, to support quality control, terminology consistency and compliance with approved standards.
Provide guidance and knowledge sharing to junior staff, new joiners or administrative staff on approved translation practices, templates, terminology, document handling and filing requirements when required.
Participate in internal quality checks, audit-related reviews or sample reviews of translated materials to support compliance with internal standards and continuous improvement.
Maintain strict confidentiality, integrity and security of sensitive, official or classified information handled during translation and interpretation activities in line with organisational policies, communication protocols and information governance requirements.
Maintain a professional, discreet and service-oriented approach when managing translation requests, official correspondence and stakeholder communications to support effective service delivery and organizational credibility.
Support urgent, high-volume or business-critical translation requirements by adjusting priorities and providing backup support to maintain continuity of service.
Perform other departmental duties related to the role as assigned and directed by management.
Qualification
About you:
Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent with Minimum 3 years of job-related experience
Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, English & Arabic Literature, equivalent or a related field.
Minimum 4-5 years of experience in translation, interpretation, bilingual communication or a similar role in a corporate or government setting
Proven experience in translating commercial, business, legal, and technical documentation from Arabic to English and vice versa with both languages used as source and target languages.
Previous Experience in related roles such as Translation Administrator, Coordinators or Officers.
Excellent command of formal Arabic and English Business Language, both written and verbal.
Preferred
Experience in legal, regulatory, aviation, infrastructure, engineering, construction, government or other highly regulated and complex environments.
Professional translation qualification, such as Chartered Institute of Linguists membership, Diploma in Translation etc, or equivalent professional qualification.
Familiarity with aviation terminology and formal government/business correspondence.
