Senior Safety Officer (Investigation)

About the role:
The Safety Investigation Specialist is responsible for leading and conducting airside safety investigations at Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport to support regulatory compliance, effective occurrence management, and continuous safety improvement. The role provides specialist investigation expertise, analyses safety data and trends, and supports the development of corrective and preventive actions in alignment with MATAR’s Safety Management System, applicable regulations, and industry standards.
Key responsibilities:
Respond to reported airside incidents, accidents, serious incidents, near misses, and deviations at Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport to support timely investigation, occurrence reporting, and compliance with MATAR Safety Management System requirements and applicable procedures.
Conduct investigations into airside occurrences and identified non-compliances or non-conformances to determine causal and contributory factors, identify underlying issues, and support the development of corrective and preventive actions.
Collect, verify, and analyse relevant evidence, including reports, witness statements, site observations, photographs, and applicable procedures, to support accurate investigation findings and objective conclusions.
Prepare initial, interim, and final investigation reports to ensure that occurrence details, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations are documented clearly and communicated to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.
Coordinate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and relevant authorities during investigations to obtain required information, clarify issues, and support effective case progression and closure.
Maintain and update the airport occurrence database to ensure data accuracy, completeness, traceability, and availability for reporting, trend analysis, and safety performance monitoring.
Prepare periodic statistical reports, trend analyses, and safety performance summaries to support management review, safety committees, and informed decision-making on operational safety risks.
Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of agreed corrective and mitigation actions to ensure actions are appropriate, risks are addressed, and residual risks are assessed where required.
Support emergency response activities related to aircraft, vehicle, or other airside safety occurrences to ensure coordinated initial response and timely collection of relevant investigation information.
Conduct periodic analysis of occurrence trends, categories, and safety data to identify recurring issues, emerging hazards, and opportunities for preventive action and operational improvement.
Review and maintain occurrence classification criteria and taxonomy to support consistent reporting, analysis, and alignment with internal and regulatory requirements.
Support safety inspections, reviews, and assurance activities to identify areas for improvement and assess compliance with MATAR safety requirements, processes, and directives.
Provide technical support to the Manager Aviation Safety and Investigation on matters related to airside occurrence investigation, safety reporting, and related assurance activities.
Perform other related duties within the scope of the role as assigned by the line manager.
Qualification
About you:
Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent with Minimum 4 years of job-related experience.
Experience in incident and accident investigation
Experience in preparing incident and accident investigation reports
Knowledge of international civil aviation regulations relevant to the role
Understanding of relevant ICAO Annexes, ICAO documents, and applicable civil aviation regulations
Hands-on experience in aerodrome safety management systems
Professional experience in technical report writing
Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
Training in Safety Management Systems
Previous experience in airside operations, air operations, ATC, or aviation safety regulations and procedures
Training in occurrence reporting and investigation
Experience in preparing or developing manuals, procedures, or other controlled documents
Technical competence in safety investigation methods
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to assess information, prepare reports, and make recommendations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Presentation and communication skills
Good knowledge of airline, aerodrome, ATC, and ground handling operations, policies, and procedures
Ability to read, understand, and interpret regulations, directives, and operating procedures
Ability to coordinate emergency situations and respond appropriately within the scope of the role
Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
Valid driving license, where required for operational access
Preferred
Ability to carry out airfield inspections;
Proficiency in using CDMS;
