Description

About the role

Qatar Airways are pleased to announce an incredibly exciting opportunity to join our Distribution team as a Commercial Efficiency Manager (Payments) to be based in Doha, Qatar.

As a Commercial Efficiency Manager (Payments), you will own the commercial payment strategy and operational framework for Qatar Airways' indirect distribution channels; ensuring that payment method acceptance, cost of sale management, policy governance, and payment programme performance across indirect channels are delivered with commercial discipline and measurable efficiency. You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining the indirect channel payment roadmap, driving the adoption of preferred payment methods, monitoring payment-related costs, and ensuring that all payment policies and processes across indirect channels are clearly defined, consistently enforced, and continuously improved. In this role you will work in close coordination with the Manager Payments for the direct channel and the Head of Payments in Finance to maintain a coherent, cross-channel view of Qatar Airways' payment economics, while holding clear primary ownership of the indirect channel.

Specific responsibilities for the role include:

  • Define and maintain the indirect channel payment strategy by establishing Qatar Airways' commercial position on payment method acceptance, preferred payment method prioritisation, cost of sale targets, and payment policy frameworks across GDS, NDC, aggregator, and other indirect connect channels; ensuring alignment with the broader commercial direction.

  • Develop and own the indirect channel payment roadmap by identifying, prioritizing, and sequencing payment capability improvements, new payment method introductions, and legacy method rationalization across indirect channels; grounded in sound business cases with clear commercial outcomes, measurable ROI, and realistic delivery timelines, in full coordination with market and segment owners.

  • Monitor and manage Qatar Airways' payment cost of sale across indirect channels on a continuous basis by tracking payment method costs, acquirer fees, scheme charges, and processing costs by channel and market; producing regular, accurate reporting that gives the Commercial and Finance teams a clear view of payment economics, cost trends, and variance against target.

  • Drive the adoption of preferred and lower-cost payment methods across indirect channels by working with trade partners, distribution partners, and channel owners to actively shift the payment mix towards methods that improve Qatar Airways' net revenue position and reduce distribution cost of sale over time.

  • Own and maintain the indirect channel payment policy framework by defining, documenting, and enforcing payment acceptance policies, surcharging rules, local payment method guidelines, and agency payment terms across all indirect distribution channels while ensuring policies are consistently applied across markets and regularly reviewed for commercial relevance and compliance.

  • Coordinate and manage business cases for all payment-related investment and change initiatives; including new payment method implementations, acquirer contract changes, technology upgrades, and cost optimisation programmes while ensuring all proposals are commercially justified, financially modelled, and presented with clear recommendations.

  • Coordinate with finance on subjects related to acquirers and payment service providers; supporting contractual reviews, RFP processes, and commercial negotiations while ensuring that acquirer relationships and contract terms reflect Qatar Airways' commercial objectives and cost targets.

  • Manage agency payment processes and policy compliance across indirect channels; including agency payment terms, ADM-related payment disputes, and breach management by ensuring that trade partner payment behaviour is monitored, non-compliance is addressed promptly, and corrective action is tracked through to resolution.

  • Work with Finance on payment fraud prevention and cost protection by coordinating fraud monitoring, recovery mechanism implementation, and payment card fee optimization; ensuring that fraud-related risks and costs are actively managed and do not erode the commercial efficiency of indirect channel payment operations.

  • Support the activation of new destinations and distribution channels from a payment readiness perspective by assessing local payment method requirements, provisioning appropriate payment options, and ensuring payment infrastructure is in place before commercial launch.
