Department: Working within the Corporate Planning (CP) team, the Corporate Planning Manager will be responsible for developing medium and long-term strategic initiatives, working on day-to-day functions, projects and ad-hoc tasks across the division.  He or she will manage analysis and data gathering requests, both internally within CP and between departments.  Within a complex data environment, tasks will involve ensuring teams perform sound analytic processing and comprehensive market research to support informed decision-making within CP.   The Corporate Planning Manager will, through his team member’s support (or independently), formulate and deliver recommendations to CP, and for management and the rest of the business (jointly).  He or she will also steer decision making and represent CP on departmental cross-functional initiatives.

Strategic and Operational Accountabilities


  1. Network Planning/Network Performance
  • Manage the development of the QR short and medium term route network with supporting business cases developed through comprehensive analysis eg. for new or existing routes
  • Supervise and/or provide recommendations to maximise profitability by optimising the allocation of capacity throughout the network eg. new destinations, frequency changes and structural changes (aircraft, retime, tags, triangles etc.)
  • Monitor and review existing performance and identify way to further enhance or improve operating results
  • Use the industry network planning tool(s) which encompasses:
    • Running the model as base for business cases
    • Analysing passenger flows, revenues and costs by route and verify forecasted versus actual performance
      • Improving the accuracy of the model’s data inputs through continuous fine-tuning
      • Utilising applications within the model i.e. a fleet assigner or a hub improvement model
      • Initiate and develop reports and tools to improve CP decision-making
      • Support the Alliance & Partnership teams with model runs to validate future agreements
      • Support Aeropolitical and Regulatory Affairs with ad-hoc information requests relating predominantly to potential new routes and supporting data
      • Build a dataset of schedules, market sizes, fares and costs to develop accurate demand and profit forecasts on an ad-hoc basis
      • Develop into a recognised and persuasive subject matter expert within Network Planning
      • Ensure that QR short and long term Corporate Planning plans are analysed and implemented efficiently while ensuring optimal aircraft utilization and passenger connectivity
      • Continuously analyse the performance of the allocated routes and make proposals to optimize their profitability and ultimately the overall profitability of Qatar Airways
      • Manage the development of the Annual Budget Operating Plan and updates to the plan
      • Provide input to the 5 year Network plan


  • Relevant College or University qualification to min Bachelor's level or equivalent
  • Strong educational qualifications
  • Relevant advanced degree including (but not limited to) Aviation, Business Administration, Commerce, Science & Engineering, Finance, Legal, Mathematical or Statistical related field


  • Master’s Degree or equivalent
  • Related supporting aviation qualifications from an accredited organisation (eg. IATA)
  • Knowledge of analysis and airline/aviation modelling techniques (eg. Boeing spill model, QSI forecasting)

Previous Experience:


§  Minimum 3 years relevant experience

  • Comprehensive understanding of commercial aviation economics, strategic planning and business management
  • Project and contract management experience


  • Previous corporate planning experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of a focus area within CP (eg. Network Planning, fleet, alliances, scheduling)
  • Experience in Transportation, and/or related roles
  • Management consulting or advisory related experience
  • Project Management experience.
