About Your Job:

Due to expediential growth of Qatar Airways, a position is available within our Aeropolitical Affairs Department to support in Aeropolitical and Regulatory Affairs across multiple regions. 

You will be responsible to obtain, protect and expand Aeropolitical rights for Qatar Airways in the assigned geographical area through direct interactions with foreign governments and inter-governmental bilateral air services agreements. In order to obtain new traffic rights, expanded traffic rights, enhance and protect existing traffic rights for all QR’s destinations, existing and planned for the future as mandated by Corporate Policy and the 5 Year Expansion Plan. Involve promoting Qatar Airways Aeropolitical objectives and wider position on liberalization and competition via targeted submissions and presentations to diverse influencers.

 

 

Accountabilities:

Strategic 

  • Draft a strategy for area of responsibility defining level and process of engagement based upon identified countries of priority aligning with corporate and commercial policy in order to achieve commercial and corporate objectives.
  • Establish a process to influence direct and indirect decision making mechanisms within Government entities, political systems, business & economic systems, public, corporate and industry affairs systems in order to achieve additional traffic rights and facilitate air service agreement negotiations to secure QR’s preferred positioning as the national airline in the local, regional and international arenas.
  • Draft objectives of traffic right entitlements targets to include new agreements, enhancement of entitles, frequencies & capacities to support QR’s commercial strategy.
  • Develop a political & regulatory framework to support the enhancement , protection and granting of new traffic rights to support the expansion & growth of QR.

Tactical/Operational

  • Plan and influence the decision making mechanisms within Aeropolitical Systems and Governmental Entities to support the granting of new traffic right entitlements for QR
  • Develop economic briefs to support QR’s growth and highlight the economic benefit of QR’s operation to new destinations.
  • Escalation of aeropolitical issues to high level delegations of the State of Qatar to enable them to negotiate on a Government to Government level to exert greater influence for positive outcomes on attainment of desired objectives in terms of gaining new traffic rights.
  • Lobbying of external government agencies that could influence the decision related to the airline expansion to obtain additional traffic rights to support the QR’s expansion and growth.
  • Identify any relevant points in the documents, policy briefs, regulations or guidelines introduced by international organizations, associations or any type of authorities and containing clauses affecting Qatar Airways’ interests or operations and draft QR regulatory position papers, QR regulatory proposal to any external organization, association or authority and recommendations for corporate communication briefs of a regulatory nature.
About You:

To be successful in this role you must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a similar role, with a Bachelors Degree qualification and more than 5 years’ experience in Aeropolitical and regulatory affairs.

You must have experience in analysis of traffic rights requirements in coordination with Corporate Planning and other departments (Finance, Commercial and Cargo) and have participated in bilateral consultations. You will have knowledge in Bilateral Air Services Agreements and Inter-carrier cooperation for airlines. You will have proven ability to proactively and re-actively manage all public policy, government relations and aeropolitical threats and opportunities to protect the interests of an airline, and be able to develop strategies to get the required traffic rights. It is essential that you also have excellent negotiation and lobbying skills.

You must have managerial skills with the ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. It is important that you have strong mentoring and coaching skills with the ability to train and develop subordinate's skills. It is essential that you have excellent English language skills in writing and speaking. Being fluent to communicate in a business environment with a second language is desirable.
