JOB PURPOSE::

A position is available within our Aeropolitical Affairs Department to support our demanding regional negotiations.

This position will manage Qatar Airways bilateral requirements and provides recommendations on how to best secure Qatar Airways new/additional traffic rights by liaising with Qatar Civil Aviation Authority  to create the framework that allows QR’s maximum flexibility. To overview and manage all regulatory laws and directives in all third countries which may have an impact on QR, and to secure the implementation of these regulations within QR.

ACCOUNTABILITIES::

Operational 

  • Initiate the required consultation with relevant internal and external stakeholders and take part in bilateral and multilateral air services negotiations delegations in the assigned area with the objective of protecting and expanding traffic rights and other Aeropolitical entitlements.
  • Develop position documents, aeropolitical executive briefs and action plans in order to facilitate air services negotiations while ensuring the airline’s preferential positioning as the national airline in the local, regional and international arena
  • Engagement of aero-political priorities to provide tailored recommendations to SVP Aeropolitical and Corporate Affairs on strategic directions that recognize and support Qatar Airways business objectives
  • Participate in delegations as an when required to negotiate, lobby or engage directly with government and political or non-government stakeholders and key influencers, to promote the airline aeropolitical objectives.

 

Management & Leadership

  • To line up with the department objectives and priorities to align with and support business objectives.
  • Evaluate regularly the department objectives, plans, procedures and practices, and makes appropriate changes if needed.
  • When needed oversee and supervise employees if assigned, direct daily activities, recruit, train, develop and discipline to ensure a high standard of service delivery.
Qualifications:

To be successful in this role you must have a minimum of 7 years’ experience working in a similar role, with a relevant Degree qualification with more than 3 years’ experience in Aero-political affairs.

You must have experience in analysis of traffic rights requirements in coordination with Corporate Planning and other departments (Finance, Commercial and Cargo) and have participated in bilateral consultations. You will have knowledge in Bilateral Air Services Agreements and Inter-carrier cooperation for airlines. You will have proven ability to proactively and re-actively manage all public policy, government relations and aeropolitical threats and opportunities to protect the interests of an airline, and be able to develop strategies to get the required traffic rights. It is essential that you also have excellent negotiation and lobbying skills.

You must have managerial skills with the ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. It is important that you have strong mentoring and coaching skills with the ability to train and develop subordinate's skills. It is essential that you have excellent English language skills in writing and speaking. Being fluent to communicate in a business environment with a second language is desirable.
